Consistency is the #1 reason we don't complete the things we desire most. The moment we try to overcome our emotions and create a new goal, we immediately think of all the reasons why it's impossible.
"I don't have the time."
"I don't know where to start."
"What I'm doing is kind of working, do I really need to change?"
The truth is...you can do hard things. You can be consistent.
If I had to take a guess, I'd say that your body care ritual is at the top of the list of things you haven't found the time to be consistent with.
I've struggled to be consistent with my body care ritual too. That's why I developed these 3 steps to help you accomplish what you desire most....creating an intentional body care ritual that serves you.
Step 1: Create Keystone Habits
Keystone Habits are actions you take that cause a chain reaction. For example, in order for me to complete my full body care ritual in the morning, I needed to start waking up earlier than I'm used to.
That was hard for me for a number of reasons. But I realized I needed to make it easier on me, I needed to find a way to make one less decision.
Instead of deciding I was going to wake up early, deciding to do my body care ritual, and all the other decisions I needed to make...I just decided I was going to wake up and open my blinds.
I don't know about you, but I can't sleep once light enters my room. Opening my blinds signals to my brain that sleep is over. I then make my bed which signals to my brain that it's time to head into the bathroom and start my ritual.
I did this consistently and that helped me be more intentional about my body care ritual....and it all started with me making one core decision every day to open the blinds.
Now it's your turn. What keystone habit is going to jumpstart your ritual?
Step 2: Consistently Make One Less Decision
We just talked about how having to make one less decision was the key to me getting intentional about my body care ritual.
It's important to consistently find opportunities to make one less decision.
The next hurdle I needed to tackle was not knowing where to start. I knew I needed all the right body care products in order for me to do this every day. But that meant I had to piece together products from different brands and that didn't feel good to me.
That would mean that I'd have to do a bunch of research or get a bunch of recommendations which sent me right back to: "I don't have time for all that" or "what I'm doing is kind of working so why should I change it".
This was when I created Address Oasis and 4-part ritual for the woman who believes in simplicity and doesn't want to piece together products from different brands.
By creating a nourishing body wash, texture-refining body scrub, moisture-rich body whip, and ultra-hydrating body serum, I no longer had to think about where to start or what brand I was going to use.
By making sure the products were clean and safe for all skin types, I could trust that this ritual was serving me now and the overall health of my skin for the future.
This helped me in so many ways but most importantly, it helped me make one less decision.
Step 3: Remember Why You're Doing This
Creating a body care ritual isn't just about wearing products that make you smell good.
It's about how good you feel knowing that you intentionally took that 45 minutes to an hour for yourself. It's about how good hearing "your skin feels so soft" or "damn, you smell good" makes you feel. It's about that feeling of effortlessly looking and feeling good with minimal effort because your body care products are doing all the work that day.
So every time you feel like skipping a day or allowing something else to interfere with the time you set aside for you, I want you to remember the real reason you started this ritual.
That will be the key to your consistency. Not letting anything interfere with that 45 minutes in the morning and/or night that you need to complete your body care ritual.
Key Takeaway
Creating a consistent body care ritual isn't just about the aesthetic and it isn't trendy. It's about remembering what it feels like to slow down to serve you first. This will remind you that you don't exist merely to survive...but to thrive.
